Community Leadership Through Grantmaking
The Grand Rapids Community Foundation makes grants to local nonprofit organizations for specific projects, capital campaigns and new programs. Our grantmaking supports a wide variety of specific efforts in the broad strategic areas of:
- Economic prosperity
- Vibrant neighborhoods
- Academic achievement
- Healthy people
- Healthy ecosystems
- Social enrichment
Additionally, the Foundation supports several community leadership initiatives. These are long-term, systemic efforts in which we convene others to help create lasting change in our community. Presently our leadership efforts include:
Just what is Community Leadership?
- A proactive effort addressing challenging and complex community issues; building a credible and diverse team of people to fully explore issues; finding bold, innovative approaches to problem solving with the understanding that some issues cannot be solved without a combination of time, dedication, human and financial resources.
More specifically, Community Leadership is:
- A magnet that attracts philanthropists who wish to contribute toward creating positive change in our community.
- Innovative and strategic communication with key audiences using research and measurement in communication efforts.
- Serving as a resource for nonprofits and others in the community who are seeking funds, collaboration and/or technical assistance.
- Being experts in philanthropy, community knowledge and financial investment strategies.
