Al Wynalda, Habitat for Humanity Volunteer

After retiring in 2006, Al Wynalda found a volunteer role that takes full advantage of his 44-year career in the commercial construction industry: three days a week, he can be found at a Habitat for Humanity worksite, involved in hands-on tasks or teaching new skills to other volunteers.
Wynalda is a Habitat Hero, recognized for his competence, dependability and calm leadership during three years of faithful volunteer service. He has worked on dozens of homes, often participating in open houses at which new homeowners are given keys to the house and a Bible signed by the volunteers who worked on their home. It’s usually a pretty emotional moment, with families expressing what it means to them to have a home of their own. “It feels good to know that I helped,” Wynalda says, with characteristic humility.
