At our annual donor party on October 18 at Grand Rapids Art Museum, we honored Greg and Meg Willit with our Jack Chaille Community Philanthropy Award.  Learn more about the Willits and their generosity in this video which debuted at the event.

Prohibition TV spot

Celebrating Ken Burns' latest documentary "Prohibition" the Community Foundation and Chuck Peterson created this little spot that shows our connection to prohibition.Burns' two part series airs on WGVU TV on Sunday, October 2 at 8 pm and on Monday, October 3 also at 8.

Community Foundation Freedom Riders Ad

Grand Rapids Community Foundation is pleased to present on WGVU TV the local broadcast of American Experience: The Freedom Riders. This two hour documentary tells the story of the bold and courageous people who took a stand (and a seat on a bus) to fight the Jim Crow laws that plagued the interstate bus system.  Air times include May 16 at 9 pm; Thursday, May 19 at 2 am; or Sunday, May 22 at 5 pm.

This ad will air before and after the show. It was created by Brian Kelly with help from Andy Anderson. Costuming and talent were arranged by Johannah Jelks. Voice over was done by Community Foundation staffer Jonse Young.

Grant Update: FastTrac

In December of 2009, the Michigan Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) at Grand Valley State University was awarded $75,000 for its FastTrac NewVenture Program, a 10-week training course for potential entrepreneurs. Dante Villarreal, Regional Director at the MI-SBTDC, had exciting results to report after FastTrac's last session under the Community Foundation grant.

Good Classrooms Minigrants 2011

52 teachers and students from Grand Rapids Public, Catholic and Christian schools received Good Classrooms Minigrants this year totaling $133,350.  In this audio slide show, you'll learn about innovative projects at Blandford School, City High/Middle School, Sibley Elementary School and Shawnee Park Hearing Impaired.

Community Foundation's Pillar Award

Grand Rapids Community Foundation was recently honored as one of three recipients of the Pillar Award from the Women's Resource Center. The award is given annually to a company that promotes a culture that empowers women in the workplace. Other winners include Priority Health and Plante Moran.
