Foundation Awards $340,000 in New Grants

The Board of Trustees of the Grand Rapids Community Foundation recently approved grants for educational programming, child abuse prevention, mental health services, the environment and community social enrichment.

The grants totaling $340,000 include:

  • The Community Media Center’s Mobile Learning Lab for Information Education (MoLLIE) program to support the program which provides curriculum-linked video production and editing education for teachers and students in Grand Rapids Public Schools. The grant award is $30,000.
  • Arbor Circle for its Early Impact child abuse prevention program, which targets at risk families for services before abuse or neglect occurs. The grant award is for $50,000.
  • Christian Counseling Center – Project Hope for the expansion of mental health counseling for low income individuals, families and children in six urban neighborhoods and one south Kent County area. The grant award is $55,000.
  • Safe Haven Ministries for its Protective Hands counseling program and outreach effort for women who are victims of domestic abuse. The grant award is $25,000.
  • A grant award of $150,000 was given to the West Michigan Environmental Action Council to provide an accessible example of state-of-the-art redevelopment practices in a urban setting and to increase the organization’s capacity in outreach and advocacy.
  • The Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts for its Drawing the Next Generation effort to bring new audiences to the facility and to provide programming support. The grant award is $50,000.
