Why I Partner with Grand Rapids Community Foundation

This winter we asked a few partners to share why they choose to volunteer with Grand Rapids Community Foundation. They share their knowledge and experiences on some of our committees. Community voice and input is critical to a community foundation. We are grateful to these partners and to partners like you who are helping us to grow together.

“As a former school counselor and teacher in the Grand Rapids Public Schools, it is a pleasure to be able to award students monetary help as they move forward into technical and university studies.  The process is very fair and I continue to be impressed with the generosity in this community.” Carol Werk, Scholarship Committee volunteer
“The Youth Grant Committee has allowed me to vote on grants and discuss the issues facing our community. I believe the Community Foundation is critical to uplifting people of all backgrounds and bringing equality, inclusion and education to the forefront of our beautiful community." Christina Vann, Youth Grant Committee volunteer
“I give because it makes me feel good. Giving time, your opinion and financial donations makes everyone feel good. We never know how much giving affects the next person. Keep giving, you will make someone's dream come true.” Tennille Harkness, Challenge Scholars Dream Fund Committee Volunteer
“I volunteer for the Grand Rapids Community Foundation because it invests in the vitality of West Michigan. It is also a great way for me to give back to a community that has done so much for me.” Jeff Kissinger, Technology Advisory Committee Volunteer
“The Community Foundation leads the way in local philanthropy, serving as a positive resource in our community for decades. It's a privilege for me to give back with my time and resources to support fair, inclusive growth in West Michigan.” Alex Caceres, Impact Investment Committee Volunteer
“Giving to the Community Foundation is investing in people. I know that when I give my dollars, it’s going towards communities working to create equitable outcomes for all people.” Mercedes Barragan, Fund for Community Good Advisory Committee Volunteer
