More than $1 Million of Scholarships Funds Available to Kent County Students

Grand Rapids Community Foundation Opens Scholarship Applications for 2021-2022

Grand Rapids Community Foundation is now accepting applications for more than $1 million in scholarships to support students pursuing post-secondary education and training. By completing one application, students will be considered for scholarship opportunities from more than 80 scholarship funds. Last year, the Community Foundation awarded $1.16 million in scholarships to 449 students.

The Community Foundation is committed to providing opportunities for first generation students and those with financial need. Scholarships are available for students with a wide variety of backgrounds,  GPAs and levels of education from public and private institutions. Students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees or technical training certificates are eligible to apply.

“For many decades, education has been a key focus of the Community Foundation’s work in Kent County,” said Ruth Bishop, education program officer. “Our region's future depends on the opportunities available to our students, who are not only our future workforce, but our future community leaders.”

Generous contributions from community members make scholarship funds and the impact of their dollars a reality for local students. Many donors have chosen to set up a fund to honor a family member or to provide opportunities for students to attend college or pursue a specific profession. Award decisions are made by more than 100 community members with applicable experience who serve on scholarship advisory committees.

The general scholarship application for the 2021-2022 academic year opened December 1 and will remain open until March 1. Interested students can find more information and apply at grfoundation.org/scholarships
